The principle purpose of the Assistant Commercial Manager is to support a Commercial Manager Team in their role of business partnering with senior management with the objective of growing revenue, maximising profitability, helping to manage effective resource utilisation and ensuring a positive cash-flow. The role is not limited to supporting, as the ambition is for you to develop and lead your own clients and become more involved in all things commercial.

Key responsibilities:

  • Principal point of contact for a small portfolio of smaller clients or brands.
  • Support, in all capacities, the Senior Commercial Manager on the team portfolio
  • Work closely with client team leads to identify areas of opportunity to increase revenues, maximise profitability, optimise resource utilisation and improve cashflows.
  • Preparation of key financial documents for both internal and external meetings.
  • Pricing up of new fees.
  • Support in audit preparation.
  • Close co-ordination with Commercial Analysts who are responsible for managing client Billing, WIP and AR.
  • Own accrual and deferrals for your team portfolio, including month end commentary.
  • Ensuring production revenue is accurately forecasted and accounted for on Flare and your client portfolio.
  • Assist and monitor actual and forecast KPIs including client revenue, profitability and resource utilisation.
  • Learn and understand the key commercial aspects of a client contract (revenues, costs, timing of invoicing, cashflow).
  • Primary point of contact for regular and ad hoc client commercial and financial queries.
  • Working closely with stakeholders in other offices to ensure global reporting is accurate and best practice is in effect.
  • Support Senior Commercial Managers with ad hoc tasks.

Personal attributes:


  • Ability to develop relationships with key clients, client teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills – comfortable interacting with a range of seniorities, personalities and with non-financial managers.
  • Numerate with a desire to obtain advanced financial systems knowledge and excellent Excel.
  • Self-sufficient, proactive and innovative.


  • Experience of providing insight, summarising complex information and actioning value-added process improvements.
  • Commercially minded, results-driven, good business judgement.
  • Speak with authority & impact, ability to match behaviour to different personalities / situations.
  • Proactive and innovative.
  • Flexible working approach – able to react quickly to urgent requests and manage time accordingly.


  • Part-qualified accountant.
  • Higher level education, ideally a degree.
  • Ideally industry-related experience (Advertising, MarComs, Media).
