Commercial Finance Analyst

Our client, a communications agency based in Soho, is looking for a Commercial Finance Analyst.

As a Commercial Finance Analyst you will be responsible for revenue forecasting, job management throughout the life cycle of the job including WIP reconciliation, opening and closing jobs. In addition to this you will be required to support on AP and AR functions as well as take ownership of management accounts. The role requires effective communication and time management. You will work closely with Client Services department where strong bonds and working relationships will be essential. Reports to Financial Controller.


  • Hold regular revenue meetings, review time vs revenue, add commentary on revenue movements and time variances >10%
  • Monthly recoverability meetings, take minutes and send to client services teams with agreed actions.
  • Bi-weekly Internal Time Review
  • Revenue posting in Workbook, reconciliation of revenue trackers with actuals, preparation of accrued/deferred revenue schedules
  • Check back up is saved on the jobs in Workbook and correct for recognition
  • Manage accrued revenue level below £100k for the division and aged items not older than 30 days
  • Oversee, assist and approve billings
  • Client setups as and when required

Commercial Productivity:

  • Utilisation reporting for the division
  • Timesheets management for accurate completion

Job Management:

  • WIP management and analysis to ensure that all third party costs are billed on a timely basis, costs from the suppliers are on the correct jobs and that WIP jobs are reconciled and cleared down
  • Monitor and reconcile estimated vs actual 3rd party costs per project, flagging overspends as soon as they occur
  • Hold regular WIP meetings with client services teams
  • Take WIP minutes and send to client services teams for confirmation together with the actions.
  • Check price quotes in Workbook are correct and backup (client approvals & PO’s) for jobs is saved
  • Review open PO’s and advise client services teams to close where appropriate
  • Perform allocation of pass through 3rd party costs
  • Maintain client jobs on Workbook – create new jobs when requested, close jobs as soon as they are finished and fully reconciled
  • Client setups as and when required
  • Ensure debit WIP is not older than 30 days
  • Send time reports on a weekly basis to the client services teams for them to check if time is recorded on the correct jobs. Perform time movements between jobs as instructed by the client services teams

Accounts Payable:

  • Oversee credit card expenses, assist with submission of the receipts
  • Review payment runs with commentary
  • AP aging ledger review
  • Assist with vendor set up and approval in Workbook
  • Ad-hoc payment support

Accounts Receivable

  • AR Aging ledger review and ensure items are not older than 30 days
  • Work to resolve any queries
  • Raise invoices for intercompany recharges & client billings

Management Accounts

  • P&L costs review & correction of allocations
  • Maintain subscriptions tracker
  • Weekly freelance tracker updates
  • Cost accruals preparation at month end
  • Balance sheet reconciliation
  • Master update with actuals
  • Forecast template update for submission to the Group
  • Month end pack update for submission to the Group
  • Completion of Stat Accounts
  • Review of VAT returns
  • Preparation of PSA and P11Ds


  • Finance process training
  • Assist with audits
  • Assist with any ad-hoc tasks client services or finance team may have
