Our client, a global digital first marketing and advertising services company has an opening for a Finance Director to join their Los Angeles office. 

In the Finance Director – Production, position, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the production finance department, providing financial oversight throughout the life-cycle of production, from Development through Post Production. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with a variety of scripted, episodic, television series, short films, live events, experiential installations, as well as general media such as websites and apps. This role will maintain direct oversight into production tax incentives, multiple currency/country budgets, and the hiring and management of production finance and accounting teams. This full-time staff position will report to the regional CFO after the initial training period. 

In this role you will:

  • Regional scope includes US entities
  • Manage Production Finance team of 11 FTE’s with 2 direct reports; this consists of Billing, Accounts Receivables/Collections and Cost Controlling roles
  • Work with the Production Finance Manager and Operational Controller to source, vet and hire location production finance and accounting teams for Physical Production and Entertainment projects as needed
  • Manage the team that’s responsible to oversee all phases of production accounting on multiple projects from pre-production through wrap
  • Provide consulting services for field production accountants on a daily basis by identifying and addressing any problem area, ensuring accurate and timely cost reporting, and answer questions presented from clients and other departments
  • Review various iterations of budgets and Cost Report reconciliations for accuracy, providing coverage of concerns to the Finance Executives, Production Executives, Business Affairs
  • Prepare and review localized management reporting; revenue targets vs. actuals, direct COS estimate vs. actuals, AR KPI’s
  • Reviews MSA’s and SOW’s with Production staff and Legal
  • Review and approve weekly production AP batches 
  • Review and assist in preparing Production Cash Flow forecast
  • Finalize Monthly and Quarterly Close process with Finance Manager and Controller (consisting of Billing, AR and project COS entry close. Accounting & Fin. Control are managed in the HQ office)
  • Manage and oversee annual Audit requirements and requests for Financial Administration, Accounts Receivables and Cost Controlling sub-departments
  • Work together with Controlling department to finalize monthly reporting
  • Mentor and educate the team on various aspects of finance and accounting
  • Drive innovative solutions for internal controls and financial reporting processes
  • Provides support to Finance Executives and CFO as needed 

Experience you already have:

  • Minimum of 7+ years of accounting experience with 4+ years in a supervisory capacity or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 7+ years in the Entertainment or Creative Physical Production industry
  • Minimum of 3+ years directly overseeing departmental internal and external Audit
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite (word, excel, etc.) and Google suite (sheets, docs, slides) 
  • ERP (at least one of: SAP, Netsuite) working knowledge and skills desired 
  • Basic understanding of tax incentive prep work for Film and Experiential
  • 3+ years of experience with Intra/Intercompany and Transfer pricing methodologies required
  • 3+ years of experience reviewing SOW’s for large scale productions required
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, global, results-oriented environment

Required Education

  • Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required, MBA preferred
