Join our client, a dynamic global independent creative group, as a Part-Time Financial Controller. This role is designed for someone ready to contribute to a growing finance team supporting an expanding UK agency base, working 3 days per week (2 days onsite in Shoreditch and 1 day from home). This is a job share role with 2days per week covered by the FC remotely based in Scotland.

This role will play a crucial part in building and managing a high-performing finance team, including the hiring and development of junior finance team members.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to the CFO, the Financial Controller will oversee a broad range of financial functions, including:

Payroll Management

  • Collaborate with the external payroll provider to manage payroll accurately for new starters and leavers, check right-to-work documentation, and post payroll journals.
  • Handle year-end reporting, including P11Ds, and process payroll journals.

HMRC Compliance

  • Manage VAT submissions and payments, ensuring accurate quarterly submissions.
  • Process PAYE payments and, if required, prepare and submit PSA.

System Training

  • Train new starters on job costing, estimating, and timesheets, becoming the team’s go-to Accountability super-user.

Intercompany Reconciliation

  • Ensure accurate reconciliation of intercompany accounts, coordinating with global finance teams and external accountants in Australia.

Cashflow Management

  • Maintain the cashflow forecast spreadsheet, tracking debtors, creditors, and other payments, ensuring bank reconciliation.
  • Identify and address potential cashflow issues and assist the CFO with P&L and balance sheet cashflow forecasting.

Banking

  • Post entries for seven company bank accounts and three credit cards, reconciling accounts on a daily/weekly basis.

Debtor and Creditor Management

  • Manage debtor/creditor setup on Accountability and the banking system, working closely with the account management team to raise invoices and manage client procurement portals.

Work in Progress (WIP) Management

  • Attend WIP meetings, working with account teams and producers to reconcile production jobs and provide clear visibility to clients.

Timesheet and Budget Management

  • Ensure all chargeable staff complete timesheets, aligning timesheets with freelancer invoices and payroll charges.
  • Coordinate month-end budget uploads.

Month-End & Year-End Reporting

  • Prepare journals for month-end and year-end, update management accounts, and work with the CFO on forecast updates.

Stakeholder Support and Queries

  • Respond to UK agency and global office queries, assisting with RFIs, including new business RFIs as needed.

Candidate Requirements:

  • A proactive, hands-on approach to financial tasks, flexible to the demands of the role regardless of qualifications or experience.
  • ACCA, CIMA, ICAEW qualification (part-qualified or equivalent experience also considered).
  • Experience in advertising or media finance is ideal but not essential.
  • Must have experience with WIP and job costing.
  • Strong focus on systems, processes, and procedures to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Commercial awareness is essential.
