Accounting Manager
Our client, an independent sports media production agency, is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join their Los Angeles-based accounting team. This role will focus on maintaining and implementing accounting policies and procedures that optimize efficiency while ensuring strong internal controls. You will handle areas like rights production accounting, cash flow forecasting, and preparing various schedules for monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting.
The ideal candidate will be highly detail-oriented, proactive, organized, and possess excellent analytical and technical skills. Reporting to the Accounting Director, this position requires someone who can manage multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and collaborate closely with business units to meet deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the month-end close process for multiple sports networks.
- Review monthly rights amortization, production flash accruals, and close adjustments, including balance sheet reclassifications, accruals, and revenue recognition.
- Ensure timely review of adjusting entries, financial statements, account reconciliations, and monthly variance analyses.
- Coordinate with the Finance group to resolve discrepancies or questions regarding journal entries.
- Prepare and review variance analyses, including rights, production, and seasonal trends, for management reporting.
- Ensure accuracy in financial statement packages and bank reconciliations for assigned networks.
- Play an active role in process improvement initiatives and internal controls testing, ensuring compliance with company policy and SOX.
- Assist with internal and external audit requests.
- Ensure timely completion of quarterly reporting schedules and monthly cash flow reports.
- Drive the standardization of accounting policies across networks to ensure consistent treatment and streamline financial processes.
- Provide ad hoc reports, analysis, and support for special projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting is essential.
- Strong ability to manage a high volume of entries under tight deadlines.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on maintaining efficiency.
- Self-motivated, accountable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with Oracle or other ERP general ledger systems is a plus.
