Assistant Accountant

Our client, a leading global digital creative agency based in Sydney, is looking for an Assistant Accountant to join their team. This role supports the Senior Accountant and Finance Director in delivering high-quality financial reporting and maintaining overall accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
Month-End Reporting
- Complete month-end closing activities, including preparing accruals, processing journal entries, and adjustments.
- Maintain a solid understanding of the Profit & Loss (P&L) and Balance Sheet.
- Update P&L working budget files with actual data promptly to aid decision-making.
Accounts Payable
- Manage vendor creation and handle vendor inquiries.
- Raise Purchase Orders or support team members in the process as needed.
- Coordinate with the shared service center to process invoices and staff claims payments.
Accounts Receivable
- Collaborate with production and client teams to secure client Purchase Orders.
- Ensure timely and accurate invoicing aligned with project progress.
- Work with the Shared Service Center to raise invoices.
- Monitor aged receivables and flag as needed.
Other Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounts through proactive job and Work-In-Progress (WIP) reviews.
- Coordinate annual external and internal audit requests.
- Provide technical accounting support and guidance to the business.
- Manage intercompany transactions and recharges across global and APAC offices.
- Recommend process and procedural improvements.
- Assist with ad-hoc tasks as required.
Skills and Experience
- Preferred Tools: Experience with SAP is advantageous.
- Technical Expertise: Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Organisation: Self-motivated, organized, and deadline-driven.
- Teamwork: Comfortable collaborating across multiple departments and countries.
- Software Proficiency: Proficient in Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
- Experience: Prior experience in accounting; advertising or media industry experience is a plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance or working towards a professional certification (ACCA, CPA, ISCA).
