Role Overview:

The Head of Finance / Finance Director will report directly to the Partners and lead financial planning and analysis for the business. The role involves providing insightful analysis, forecasting, and strategic guidance to leaders and senior stakeholders, while managing a team of three.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop regular reporting metrics to enhance business capabilities, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Drive the transformation of the finance function, focusing on robust financial planning processes and management reporting.
  • Evaluate current systems and manage the implementation of new financial software as needed.
  • Oversee the annual budget, short-term financial re-forecasting, and weekly and monthly financial performance estimates. Identify trends, opportunities, and risks, providing recommendations for financial optimization.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine and update the company’s budget and forecast, ensuring alignment with business goals and market conditions. Provide regular budgetary reports to other departments.
  • Serve as a business partner to the consulting team, working closely to drive project financial performance and the adoption of new systems and processes.
  • Develop reports focused on utilization and project profitability, in conjunction with resourcing and leadership.
  • Supervise the preparation of regular and ad-hoc financial reports and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders, including the monthly management meeting slides.
  • Approve monthly management accounts and year-end accounts.
  • Oversee company audits and manage all tax obligations and related concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements in both the UK and the US.
  • Manage and report on cash flow.
  • Implement cost control measures.
  • Manage and coach a high-performing finance team, ensuring career development opportunities.

  • A qualified accountant with a strong grasp of accounting fundamentals
  • Advanced reporting skills, including proficiency in Excel and data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau
  • Demonstrated success in delivering measurable results that contribute to an organization’s financial health and growth
  • Proven project management skills, with a track record of successful system implementation, including financial and project management tools and process design
  • Strong understanding of the broader business context influencing financial decisions, with the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve complex financial issues and optimize performance
  • High attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and efficiently
  • Team management experience, with a focus on implementing best practices, developing employees, and refining procedures
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey financial insights to executives and stakeholders effectively
  • A collaborative team player who thrives in the company’s culture
  • Experience in a professional services or agency environment is preferred
  • Knowledge of US financial, taxation, banking, and payroll processes is advantageous but not essential
