Staff Accountant

Our client, a leading strategy-driven communications agency, is seeking a driven, creative, and highly organized Staff Accountant to join their New York office. The ideal candidate should be detail-oriented, have experience managing the general ledger, AP, AP, cash, balance sheets, and bank reconciliations. This is a critical role for agency and the candidate will help to maintain accurate financial records, provide support for financial analysis, and ensure compliance with accounting regulations. Previous agency experience is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepares general ledger journal entries, fixed asset tracking, monthly balance sheet reconciliation, and bank and credit card reconciliation
  • Assists in generating and filing monthly financial reports
  • Develops, analyzes, and prepares periodic financial statements for timely distribution to management
  • Assists with accounts payable functions including but not limited to verifying invoices, expense reports, check requests, and purchase requisitions; entering data into accounts payable system; and processing weekly check runs
  • Assists with accounts receivable functions including but not limited to applying payments to appropriate accounts, monthly invoicing, reconciling customer accounts, and handling customer inquiries
  • Assists with budget preparation
  • Assists in Treasury responsibilities, managing the cash forecast
  • Prepares and analyzes monthly journals
  • Performs daily banking procedures
  • Maintains fixed asset and related depreciation schedules
  • Assists the CPA with tax returns
  • Assists with annual external audits
  • Analyzes and reconciles general ledger accounts
  • Prepares account analyses and reconciliation
  • Coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures
  • Reviews and analyzes the organization’s accounting operation; recommends improvements
  • Assists with related special projects as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Controller and VP of Finance
  • Additional operational duties such as IT responsibilities may also be required for this role

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role

  • Bachelor in Accounting and/or Finance. MBA is a plus
  • Agency experience is a plus
  • Proficient in Quickbooks or has experience with similar accounting systems
  • Knowledgeable in Expensify or has experience with other expense management systems
  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence
