The Opportunity
Our client, a Financial PR agency, is on the lookout for a dynamic Assistant Controller to join their growing Finance Team in their vibrant New York office. Reporting directly to the finance director, you will be integral in driving their financial strategy forward. From preparing insightful weekly cash flow reports to managing monthly state and local tax filings, your work will directly influence the agency’s financial health and future.
What You’ll Do
- Reporting to Finance Director: Offering mentorship
- Drive Financial Insights: Prepare comprehensive financial statements that will help forecast the agency’s financial trajectory.
- Lead Cash Flow Management: Produce weekly Cash Flow reports that give the management team a clear view of the agency’s financial pulse.
- Streamline Payments and Collections: Oversee weekly vendor payments and collection efforts to ensure smooth operations.
- Ensure Billing Accuracy: Review client invoices to maintain the highest level of accuracy and client satisfaction.
- Monthly Reconciliations: Reconcile balance sheet, bank and credit card accounts, ensuring all financial activities are accounted for.
- Accruals and Reporting: Prepare detailed monthly reports on accrued accounts and assist with budgeting and billing accuracy.
- Tax Filings: Take charge of preparing and filing state and local tax returns.
- Support Audits: Assist in preparing information for both internal and external audits.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Help guide junior team members, fostering a collaborative and supportive environment.
- Ad-Hoc Financial Analysis: Develop and distribute specialized reports and financial models to drive strategic decision-making.
What You’ll Bring
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is essential.
- Experience: A minimum of 3 years in accounting, with a preference for experience in a professional service firm, marketing agency, or accounting firm.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, vLookups) and proficiency with QuickBooks Online or similar accounting software.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience in a time-based service industry is a plus.
- Detail-Oriented: Exceptional attention to detail is a must.
- Analytical Mindset: Strong analytical skills, especially in trend and variance analysis.
- Independent & Collaborative: A self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team.
