Our client, a Global Independent Creative Agency that represents some of the leading house hold names, has an opening for CFO to join their office in California.

Reporting to the President and the Global CFO, you will have overall responsibility for managing and running finance activities of the office, including best practice approaches to business planning, budgeting, forecasting, risk and governance.

You will need to be an operationally oriented strategic leader, with the insights to help grow and effectively run the business. Demonstrated operational experience in a creative company is critical.

You will lead and/or support the development and implementation of best-practice financial policies and tools that ensure a well controlled yet flexible organization with strong fiscal management.

Core Duties/Responsibilities

  • Be a trusted advisor to the President, actively engaged in industry trends and advise office leadership on ways to future proof the agency, evolving with the constantly changing times.
  • Works with agency client service teams, negotiating client fees and ensuring appropriate client compensation models are put in place. On an ongoing basis, the CFO should ensure the agency achieves profitability by identifying when additional fee negotiations are necessary, developing tracking processes to assess project status and providing timely profitability information.
  • Builds a “Moneyball” approach into the finance and broader agency, reinforcing a culture around reporting and KPIs that informs financial and operational improvements.
  • Manages the monthly forecast process using information and insights to assess the health of the office, bringing issues to local and global leadership’s attention.
  • Partnering with agency department heads on the development and adherence to office and department budgets and forecasts, including the pro-active management of resourcing and utilization.
  • Key point of contact for risk management including agency insurance, advising management and production departments on policies and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Directs, reviews, and/or performs accounting department functions including internal financial reporting (including budget and forecast), general ledger accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cost accounting, local and country tax compliance, payroll and WIP accounting.
  • Provides leadership, supervision and mentorship of the Finance team, Office Facilities and IT. Responsible for overseeing the building lease management, including the relationships with building ownership/property management.
  • Establishes and maintains local office and country accounting practices, principles and procedures in compliance with applicable regulatory accounting guidance and tax laws.
  • Establishes and develops relationships with senior global management, office leadership teams, and external partners and vendors.

Personal Specification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and/or any related field
  • 10 years of experience as a Financial Officer, Director and/or Manager
  • Post graduate, mentored practical experience or relevant professional accreditation.
  • Previous experience as a financial officer or director in advertising/marketing industry
  • Proven experience in a senior finance role within a corporate environment, demonstrating a deep understanding of corporate finance principles and best practices.
  • Exceptional analytical and strategic thinking abilities, with a track record of successfully executing financial
  • strategies that drive organizational growth
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of inspiring and guiding a team to achieve ambitious financial objectives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at influencing internal stakeholders at all levels.
