Our client, a thriving employee-owned health marketing agency based in Los Angeles, is looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to lead their financial close process, oversee accounting operations, and guide their team through impactful general ledger improvement projects. About the Role

As the Director of Accounting, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant financial results while driving efficiency across the accounting function. You’ll lead the charge in adopting new technical accounting standards, managing external audits, and enhancing processes in a dynamic, rapidly growing organization.


Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Close Process: Lead a fast and efficient 5-day (or less) close process, delivering accurate and timely results.
  • Reconciliations & Analysis: Prepare and review reconciliations of large data sets across platforms, and analyze balance sheet and P&L accounts to ensure accuracy.
  • Operations Oversight: Manage revenues, receivables, inventory, cost of sales, advertising, leases, and other key areas for a vertically integrated business.
  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the technical SME, implementing new accounting guidelines per US GAAP, drafting memos, and updating policies.
  • Audit Management: Act as the primary liaison for external auditors, prepare PBC requests, and produce financial statements and footnotes.
  • Financial Reporting: Provide monthly financial reports to business units and deliver detailed explanations on budget variances and fluctuations.
  • Project Leadership: Oversee system integrations, customizations, and process improvement projects.
  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, driving performance through goal setting, guidance, and coaching.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with leadership to advance company goals, identify process improvement opportunities, and enhance operational efficiencies.

What You’ll Bring

  • Experience & Expertise:
    • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience in high-growth organizations ($500M+ in revenue).
    • 3+ years managing and developing teams of Managers or equivalent roles.
    • Big 4 or Top 10 public accounting background with experience in similar industries.
    • Strong working knowledge of NetSuite or large ERP systems.
    • Advanced Excel proficiency and familiarity with e-commerce (B2C), CPG, and fast-paced startups.
  • Education & Credentials:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance.
    • CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Skills & Traits:
    • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and technical accounting standards.
    • Exceptional analytical, project management, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to prioritize, problem-solve, and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
